To tell the truth and nothing but the truth…

Welcome to a new forum for RNs, LPNs, LVNs, CNAs, CMAs, MAs, Psych Techs/Aides, Unlicensed Caregivers, and Students. This forum is dedicated to telling the truth about employment in the nursing and health care world while maintaining anonymity for the contributors and users of this site. This forum is not intended to be a slanderous free-for-all; however, it is hoped that by having a safe place to vent about real issues in health care employment, nurses and other health care employees will find the support they often lack at their respective places of employment. Too often nurses and health care workers are less than honest about the realities of their chosen profession not only because of the amount of “prestige” that comes with being in this profession, but also because of a strong denial about their current toxic work environment. It is really difficult to face that a hard earned nursing degree has resulted in a career that is equally, if not more, hard and unforgiving. Thus is the reason for stressing total honesty from contributors for this forum. Let’s get real here, please.

Health care workers and their employers should be on the same team looking out for each other, protecting and nurturing each other through the difficult and numerous crises they face as a routine part of the job. (This is called team work – what a concept!) All too often, however, the exact opposite occurs making the work place a hostile environment among enemies that is similar to a Nazi regime. Do we fear for our lives? No. But we often fear for our jobs, our licensure and our livelihood not only from the inevitable human errors that we might make, but also from co-workers and supervisors that pretend to be friends and confidants. Thus the reason for the categories: “Nurses that eat their Young” and “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t”.

Why have I encouraged mentioning company/employer names in posts? First and foremost, I want these organizations held responsible for perpetuating and increasing the already difficult and often abusive environments that health care workers often find themselves in. Second, I also want to provide a resource for job hunters that might prevent them from accepting employment from employers that are listed in the “worst employers” category. There are many facilities that I would not have worked for had I known that the facility had an established local reputation for being a difficult place to work.

The current listed categories that I have created are based on my 18+ years in the nursing field mostly in the Northwest states of Montana, Washington and Oregon. Any suggestions for more categories would be appreciated. If a set of comments appears to be headed into its own sub-category then I will split that group off from the original root and create a new category from that group. Any other suggestions for this forum are welcome as the purpose here is to serve as a catharsis for what you are facing every day at your job. This forum is still under construction, so please be patient with changes that may occur over the next few months.

A note about registration: In order to be truthful and to keep your comments anonymous, it is important that you create a user name and email address that cannot be recognized by anyone that knows you. Unfortunately, a real working email address is needed because the Word Press program will send you an automated email with a computer generated password that you may change after you have logged in using that password. Also, if you forget your user name and/or password, they can be emailed to you if you request. The administrator of this site will never personally send you an email unless requested and will not engage in email list selling. No newsletters or any other form of email communication will ever be sent to you from this site other than the initial automated email after you register.

Your participation and viewing of this site is very much appreciated.
